Thanks for the update! I figured it might be tough going without root. I called VZW again to ask for a temp or loaner phone option to hold me over until the S8 or N8. They said they couldn't or wouldn't do that. They advised me to call Samsung and try the same. After diplomatically escalating as high as I could, no dice from them either. You'd think that would be the least they could do for someone who is telling them that they want their newest product despite the Note7 debacle. They said my only remaining option is to email a complaint to Samsung's office of the president. They tried to sell me a refurb Note 3 for 199.00.

brian.geller - I received a similar response from Samsung Australia during SEP-NOV when Samsung 'closed' my case because I had returned my Note 7 via my Carrier.
In Australia, all mobile consumer calls are switched to the Philippines support call centre (there is no way to talk to anyone locally) and I've had escalation to a couple of managers who have called me back after following through... however my reading of the situation is that Samsung takes a strong party line and does not allow anyone to go outside of the 'approved' position - so no progress - I believe they genuinely tried
but no authority
I could not even get to discuss a Note 5 64GB model...
Juliesdroidsync - sighing too...
