No, the shield disables packages that are associated with OTA updates being pushed to your phone.

My firewall is blocking it now is that good enough to keep blocking it

We definitely recommend using the sheild app. But, if yiu have OTA updates blocked, the decision is up to you.

The app is definitley simple to use. It was also great that my disabler couldn't find the OTA package the the shield can do it automatically. Excellent work there!
