From all the methods I've tried to (unsuccessfully) recover my device from the 15%/no WiFi update, here's what I've been able to gather, and please correct me if something here is not true:
[*]Canadian and American Snapdragon models can't have custom recoveries loaded as they have locked bootloaders and do not have an available TWRP recovery.img
[*]Anyone with V3 firmware cannot downgrade to older Samsung firmware because of the e-fuse inside the phone
[*]No custom ROMs exist for Snapdragon devices

Since those of us on V3 firmware can only reflash V3 firmware and nothing earlier, this leads me to wonder, can the firmware files be modified to get rid of WiFi disabling or charging restrictions? At the basic level, all firmware files consist of large amounts of java code that can be manipulated, as long as it is recompiled correctly. And on that note, would it be possible to even copy and paste the code from inside V2 firmware files into V3 firmware files, recompile, and reflash as V3 files? I am very curious and willing to try this out if there is no other option.
That is, of course, given that I haven't even been able to find V3 firmware for my version (SM-N930W8) yet. Once I can, I should be able to test this out in comparison to firmware files I have downloaded for V1 and V2 variants.

It's not as easy as you may think...
If you change / recompile or even write a new firmware, the bootloader won't accept it. This is because you need a Samsung signed firmware. And to do this you'll need Samsung's digital signature and the signing tool (or at least signing method).

That's what came to my mind as well.
I know this is quite ambitious, but I feel I don't have much of a choice at this point for the Snapdragon variant.
