I followed Catwoman's fix and got through the flashing of the firmware, but when I went to put Strong Explorer on my phone, my phone wasn't visible on my computer. When I plug it in, both the computer and the phone make the "pllliiiiiinnngggg" sound showing something has just connected, but the phone is not there with the other drives. I have made sure that the 3 settings in Developer Options are on as directed. I have tried different usb cables. Device Manager shows Samsung Device and says that the driver is the most current one. I'm running Windows 8.1, and the phone is on Sprint. I am not very familiar with any of this, heck it took me a day and a half to figure out how to post this issue on here. Now I just pray that if someone tells me how to fix this, that I will be able to return to this post for the answer. This is now day 6 without my phone. How frustrating. Thanks a lot, Samsung. If Ford did a recall on my car and I didn't turn it in, would it be considered good business if they came to my house and slashed my tires, then a month later came back and set it on fire? I don't think so. Sorry (not really) about the rant, thanks for any help.
And Catwoman, your tutorial is awesome!! Simply amazing.
N7 not visible on computer after flashing

Turn on developer options:

After that go to Setting---> Developer Options---> USB configuration---> Choose MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)

Thank you for your response. Yes, I had MTP selected on that one, along with turning on OEM unlock, USB debugging, and Verify apps via USB. Everything else in Developer Options is turned off. Could it be something simple that I'm overlooking? I didn't change any settings from when I flashed it until I tried to put Strong Explorer on the phone. The phone just wouldn't show up. After about a minute from plugging it in, the phone displays a message that says, "Attention The connected device is unable to access data on this device. Reconnect the USB cable and try again." Then more about "Android File Transfer or Samsung Smart Switch must be installed on Mac OS X devices". I'm not using a Mac.

Try this:
Go to settings> developer options> USB configuration> select PTP
Your computer will config the drivers and your phone will ask you if it is okay to connect with that computer. Click allow.
Then do the same thing: Go to settings> developer options> USB configuration> but this time choose MTP.
Is your USB type C Cable the one that came with your Note 7?

I set USB configuration to PTP. The computer made 3 descending tones as if a drive were being disconnected, but that's all. The screen doesn't change. It doesn't ask me anything. I am using the USB cable that came with the phone. On the computer I'm looking at the screen that says "This PC" and shows folders at the top and the "Devices and drives" at the bottom. Isn't that where it should show up?

It doesn't ask for permission to connect to the computer. It makes the disconnect sound whenever I change it to PTP or back to MTP, but no messages other than it's not able to communicate with the computer. Are the other selections that I mentioned above in Developer Options supposed to be turned on? I didn't turn them off.

Seems that the phone isn't correctly recognized bay teh computer so the correct drivers don't load. Sometime it helps to use another usb port.dstough wrote:It doesn't ask for permission to connect to the computer. I tried that. I also tried reloading the samsung drivers in device manager, but it says that they are all the latest ones. Are the drivers supposed to load into the computer or into the phone? Do I want the latest, or the originals before updates? Do you think that using a different computer might help? This one is a Lenovo laptop. I'm willing to try anything. You know, tail of newt, eye of frog...or whatever it is.

You can try with another computer (possibly with another OS, best experience with Windows 7) and / or another USB cable.dstough wrote:I tried that. The other computer must make a complete new install / device recognition so it very often will work.

No, I mean install at the PC. There the drivers will be installed, after this the PC should able to recognize the phone correctly.dstough wrote:When you say a complete new install, do you mean that I have to reflash the pre-update firmware to the phone, or just the two programs that are needed after flashing it? I have access to a Windows 7 machine.

When I ran the Strong Explorer program, the file wssyncmlnps has a 2 on the end after the last "s", before the dot APK. Does that matter? What if Samsung tries this again, but sends out updates with different names on the files? Would they get past these precautions?

If you disable wssynmlnps2 you won't be able to run smart switch and will need another method for doing backups.dstough wrote:1392 When I ran the Strong Explorer program, the file wssyncmlnps has a 2 on the end after the last "s", before the dot APK. Does that matter?
