Hi all

Just installed the 0.5.8 Alliance Shield. Massive kudos to the merry band of genii for coming up with that little number!

(If UK carriers try to zap us again, hopefully those smart enough to have installed will be protected - me included).

And so to the point; I'm just wondering if a reliable 30% battery limit fix has been created as yet? Previous post has been locked, but reading through some of the answers from the back end of 2016 it's unclear as to whether any of the fixes offered might apply to UK models.

I'm under a bit of pressure here to swap for an S7E (which I've been resisting by using a portable battery to top-up throughout the day) as I use my cell for work, so I'm hoping that someone can help or at least point me in the right direction.

If you were hit by the 30% limit then downgrade to earlier stock rom is not longer possible as it was with the 60% limit, but:

For the exynos versions N930F or N930FD there's a roolback avalaible by installing custom recovery / root / installing custom rom like described here:

Please forgive my ignorance here, but although the custom ROM looks pretty straightforward to install, once it's all done, am I going to end up with a phone that looks and operates pretty much the same as it does now, or does the ROM change everything?

I don't have much to lose as the battery is a pain at 30% charge, but I'm just trying to weigh up what I'm likely to end up with.

I appreciate this stuff is probably second nature to a lot of you, but I guess I'm worrying more due to the fact that I'm way out of my comfort zone with all this.

If anyone can possibly reassure me by letting me know what's what, that'd be really appreciated:-)

I bought my Note 7 when it already was updated to 30% limit, i installed the Hydra ROM and all is fine now.

Install hydra rom, is like 99% stock and you will have 100% battery. First install custom recovery, root, hydra rom and you're good to go. Go to the link above. Pretty straight forward.

I'm on 2nd edition Note 7 in the UK which I had to factory reset. All I've done is the Solid Explorer method as the shield isn't currently working and it seems to be working. I hope I'll be ok with just that. I'm only connected through mobile data and haven't connected to WiFi yet.

I'm going to bite the bullet this weekend. If my beloved N7 is bricked in the process, I'm going to have to suck it up because I can't put up with a portable charger for much longer and 30% just does my head in.

Looking at the link provided by Beowulf (thank you BW) I notice that the Odin download site isn't active for some reason. Can I download this elsewhere guys?

You can download it elsewhere. Remember first install custom recovery via odin, them hydra rom via twrp. Cheers

Good evening all from the UK, and I hope you're all OK wherever you are on the planet.

So, I sat down last night, finally, with the whole evening ahead of me, can of freezing cold Coke to hand, ready to bite the proverbial bullet with this beautiful cell phone that frustratingly only charges to 30%.

The kicker here was the arrival of a brand new Galaxy G 3 Fronteir smart watch - a birthday present courtesy of my lovely wife. I couldnt bear having to keep the cell phone charged with an external battery just to get decent use from the watch..

I'd read up as much information as I thought was possible, I'd taken soundings and advice from a few of the brilliant minds on this forum (thankyou Beowulf, jbags, Jopa7, Roytone et-al) and was fairly confident that I'd get the job done.

WRONG!

I downloaded: Bootloader/Modem and ODIN. I presumed that I'd need them on my PC, not the cell phone.

Then I placed BL and CP in the appropriate tabs in ODIN. Then I got stuck as the instructions on the wenb page (https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7 ... 0-t3447611) instructed me to "follow the steps on this side until you get a working custom recovery: TWRP"

Following the TWRP link, I just about stayed with things, but then more links appeared mentioning names such as gracelte, Verity, root and more.

My head began to bang a bit, but still I stayed with it.

I studied the content of the TWRP page (http://teamw.in/devices/samsunggalaxynote7exynos.html) downloaded TWRP, started the cell in download mode and then panicked.

A chug on the Coke can calmed my nerves, and I pressed on.

Then I read; This device uses dm-verity!
This means that swiping to allow system modifications will prevent you from being able to boot if you are using the stock kernel. In order to bypass dm-verity's boot prevention, you will have to install a kernel that has dm-verity disabled in the fstab.

I realised then that I was well beyond my comfort zone. It honestly feels like I'm peering over the edge of a very deep, very dark rabbit hole, which isn't good.

For anyone who's read this far, I'm frustrated beyond belief that I cannot work out how to do this for myself. I may be overcomplicating things, but my overiding fear is that I'll brick the phone if I get things wrong, and as it's the phone I use for business and pleasure, I really cannot go there.

I'm not one to give up on things lightly, but I really do need some (more) expert advice please, or at the very least poining in the right direction of somewhere to look up a simplified list (idiot proof will do me for starters) of instructions.

Can anyone help me here, please?

I appreciate that it's time consuming making this stuff simple for a pleb such as me to understand, and if I can return the favour somehow, I'd be only too willing to do that, but as things stand, it feels like I'm trying to learn Klingon, or Welsh - and my head is hurting. A lot.

I'm a great believer in the old saying "what comes around, goes around" and i'll always, always do someone a good turn if I possibly can. I'm hopeful that someone out there has the same philosophy on life and humanity as I do, and that if they have the knowledge, time and goodwill to impart it, that they'll do me a good turn.

Have you been able to sort it out? otherwise you can send it in to samsung UK (call 03307265555) and get full refund, you can then pick up the s8+ which is a very good phone by all means.
