A few "random" questions...

Hi,

I follow the directions on this website and got rid of the 60% charging limitation. As I mentioned before, the tutorial was one of the best and easiest I have ever seen. And I have been flashing phones for a decade now. : )

Anyhow. The next thing I was going to do is the disabling of OTA updates. As a matter of fact, I just did it. However, I am still confused on if I did the "right" thing or not?!

1. I posted more than 5 times in this forum, but somehow I am still not able to download the shield package?! I am trying to do so using this link here:

http://note7alliance.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=237

I click: "Download the apk to your phone [Here]" But it says, "You are not authorized to read this forum."??? Why is it saying that? I feel like the link is broken or something, as I have seen the download somewhere else on this site, but did not download it at the time. Now I cannot find it again. Anyhow, might not be important anymore as I disabled the OTA updates using the Solid Explorer method. That is my next question though.

2. I did the Solid Explorer method and my results are exactly the same as in the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mswfL05mnAA

If my results are the same as in the video, the video is made by the Note7Alliance, why would I need to install the Shield app???

Thanks,

Kmd

p.s. what happens if I go online and for some weird reason Samsung/Tmobile installs a OTA update? Can this then be undone again and you start from scratch???

EDIT: I saw that I at some point downloaded Shield V3. If I use this method to block OTA updates, what other benefits do I get? Will my Note 7 also be rooted and unlocked for other carriers?

thanks,

Kmd

The Shield V2 app is available here, this link should work:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1058&p=10116

If you already done Solid Explorer method, you're protected.
Shield V2 does the same, but automatically, so you wouldn't need the Solid Explorer and choose the packages to re-install manually.
This way shield V2 is more convinient for most users.

Shield V3 can do more for you, It has a full package disabler and some additional funntions, however for thhe the advanced features the post requirement is higher.

Your snapdragon Note isn't rootable at all, unless you own a device from the first batch (white battery) and never did any update since the beginning.
All Note 7s from major US carriers are already carrier unlocked by default, so no need to do this.

- The link still doesn't work?! It tells me that I am not authorized?
- I see, Shield V2 just makes it easier. Copy that. Glad to hear that I am protected anyway. : )
- So Shield V3 has more features. Not sure if I need those features, but good to know. How many posts do you need for that?
- Cool and not cool. Cool that my Note is already unlocked. Not cool that I cannot root it. Actually, to be honest, I already forgot what rooting a phone is good for, ha ha. Haven't done it in a while. That said, other than wanting to unlock it, what is rooting good for again? Disabling apps and such, correct? Well, I spend $1.49 for some package disabler that gets rid of all the bloatware, so I guess I do not need to root anymore anyway. : )

Thanks for the fast and detailed reply!

Yes it will. The package disabler, APN manager and Firewall will all work with a Note 6

I wasn't aware that the first batch of snapdragons could be rooted.. I just got my hands on a first-gen, untouched device and that would be a fun project if you have any links. Also, the Notes I have from at&t are all carrier locked but is there something I'm missing?

Rooting for this first batch devices is done by using a sprint debug firmware (working with non-Sprint models too).
Best idea would be to send a request to @Garyinskeep1 from our team. He is well experienced in doing that for snapdragon models.

For the carrier lock it should be possible to use unlocking tools if the device is rooted.

I forgot all about the engineering image from my S7 days, never realized it was out for the Note. I'll definitely check with @Gary when I get started.

Thanks for the tip
