LesGarten wrote:5635 How do you know if you get hit with the Kill update?

Go to setting>>general management and look for baseband.

If it says this N930AUCS3APL2
You got hit. If not, shield up and you'll be good. Also, if it doesn't hold a charge while plugged in is another good indication.

Appreciating the help you guys are putting into keeping our notes up and running, even after the latest update. Currently reading through the posts to make sure I've got everything locked down and understand what is happening. Like the 0% update locked a phone from downgrading?

My note 7 took a dive just went black and doesn't respond to recovery or soft reset button hold down. phone was working great I flashed had shield up and back to 100%. Um not sure if something got to it or not. My wi fi was already out and I was doing some reading and the Canada versions they took the wi fi and Bluetooth from the note. So it looks like they figured a way to get to them with out an update which I didn't think was possible but I been down 4 days with no functions mine is an at&t and I am in Detroit very close to canada

I got my note 7 charged with the kill update.. Look I know it's not the best way to do it but as of now until someone can seriously find a way around the kill switch update. This is the only way to charge our notes... it's dangerous but 110% works and I personally call it "Force Charging" and that is to bypass the logic board and go straight to the battery. I took my glass panel off and basically hot wired my.battery I got 100% on my note 7 in 1 hour and the only way to keep that charge is to keep,it plugged into a power bank or the wall,or car charger.. But it does work and if you want battery power your gonna have to do it... Now I just came in from smoking a cig highly pissed at samsung Samsung and Verizon for basically destroying my personal property my n7 and I was thinking about other ways.to charge it or use it with out having it plugged up all the.time.. which for now one of.us has to create a mod chip / mod connector or even a external battery case for these phones.. if I can rig a connector that will go between the battery cable and board and have it connected to the port connecter then I can fully charge.my note even with that kill update with no issues and i also was thinking I i could also soldier and wire my battery to my wireless charging pad inside the.phone and I could charge it wirelessly. Either way I have to charge my phone and I will have a design and a fully working mod on my note 7 within the next 48 hours so i no longer have to remove my panel and hot wire "force charge" my phone.. But anyways guys and gals that's the absolute only way we can charge our phones with the kill update until one of us can break into the update and disable the kill switch.
All they down was limit the charging to 0% which makes the note think its fully charged at 0% which causes.it to no longer charge.. if we can find out where exactly that code command is we can charge the value back up to 80% 100% which ever you want but issue is no root and no way of searching the update files...

And btw I'm actively working on a hardware solution to charge this phone safely. Above is the only working way for the ones that got that update which really think about it.. if our phones where gonna blow up they all ready would have by now.. I forced charged my phone yesterday and let it run down but I'm gonna do,it again today and while im going it I may go ahead and soldier my wireless pad connectors to my battery connector and if i put my phone on the wireless charger and if it charges then I'm golden with the update blocker and charging. I'll update how it goes if it don't work then only way is bypass the board ans just hot wire from the port. Which it will still charge if of a fix comes around at the software end of things...

Please read the last 2 sentences of the above quoted post. Does the method described by @kc.mullins have potential??

Hey @kc.mullins
I read with delight the last few lines of your post. I am really not technical, just follow directions carefully, but it seems to me that you are right on target with regard to the phone thinking it is 100% charged when it is at 0%. Why don't you send your thoughts on this matter to some of the big wigs on this site? Oh wait, I may have done so.
