Smart Switch issues

Smart Switch is not working. I downloaded the apk for Note 7 Catwomen suggested in another post but still getting a timeout error. My laptop can see the phone as it appears in my files but smart switch won't connect. I uninstalled/reinstalled several times as well.

Do you habe developer option enable? In there there is something that would said usb configuration select MTP (media transfer protocol) that should help your pc see your phone.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, developer option is "On". I confirmed USB Debugging etc was on before starting but now that I checked Developer Options, to make sure, USB Debugging was set back to off. Not sure where in the process it reset itself? After opening Smart Link and connecting I did click the "file transfer" option and Smart Switch would at least attempt to find the phone but would time out every time. Maybe I should start from the beginning?

Thanks, nfamouzprincezz!! No, I did not let the update run. I obviously did something wrong as it's working just fine for others though. I'm going to give it another go tonight. PS -- a coworker installed packedge disabler pro-or something like that- on the phone (which did not prevent the install notification) but I read elsewhere here on the forums that that shouldnt cause any issues? Maybe that was misinformation or not true with all carriers? I don't know.... I have to go back a step now that the notification is on the phone and will post again if still running into the same issue. Thanks again!!!

Hey guys... Finally had a chance to try this again but this time doing it on my work PC to make sure everything is clean. I watched the entire tutorial -- getting back to 100% charge (THANKS Catwoman). When I click on the Smart Smart Switch link provided it does pull up but the screen still looks the same as it did before ---- which is "Welcome to Smart Switch. Smart Switch is the easiest way.....connect the device to get started." It does not say my phone model. The tutorial doesn't say to connect yet but do I need to? I have not installed the driver firmware from the site but have download (the unzipping happens later on in the tutorial). Am I on the correct path or did I already do something wrong.

RESOLVED -- once plugging in the phone the same thing happened as in original post however this time when I changed on phone to "file transfer" I could see my phone on Smart Switch but within about 30 seconds it popped back to message in my original post. I unplugged the phone and plugged back in, changed to "file transfer" and then VERY QUICKLY clicked "Backup" in Smart Switch and the backup started and "completed". Phew!!! On to the next step.
